Brazilian oil and natural gas production reached a record volume of 3.734 million barrels of oil equivalent per day (boe/d) in April this year.

According to the country’s National Petroleum, Natural Gas, and Biofuels Agency (ANP), the volume is 0.5 percent higher than in March and 18.3 percent higher than in April 2024.

Considering oil alone, daily production reached 2.895 million barrels in April this year, 0.4 percent more than in March and 16.4 percent more than in April 2024. Natural gas production reached 133.33 million cubic meters per day (m³/d), up 0.8 percent from the previous month and 25.6 percent from the same period last year.

Figures

Brazil’s total oil and gas production—including pre-salt, post-salt and onshore fields—amounted to 4.689 million barrels of oil equivalent per day. In other words, pre-salt output represented 79.6 percent of the nation’s total production of these hydrocarbons.

Total oil production reached 3.632 million barrels per day, an increase of 0.3 percent from the previous month (March) and 13.7 percent from the same month in 2024. The daily average of natural gas in all of Brazil’s fields reached 168.01 million m³/d, up 1.5 percent on March and 22.9 percent on April 2024.

The use of natural gas stood at 97.1 percent. Of the total extracted from underground, 4.98 million m³/d were burned without being used—13.6 percent less than in March this year. Compared to April last year, however, there was a 25.5 percent surge.

In April this year, the fields operated by Petrobras—alone or in consortium with other companies—were responsible for 89.76 percent of the total produced. The Tupi field, in the pre-salt Santos basin, was Brazil’s top producer, with a daily average of 783,91 thousand barrels of oil (21.6 percent of the total) and 39.81 million m³/d of natural gas (23.2 percent of the total).
